Another Upgrade - New Partitions.

My BH nest counts has been increasing steadily for the last few months between 2 to 19 nests every month. But, I think I can do better and I want more. That is why last week I added 2 new things in my BH.

1. Ultrasonic Humidifier which I already mentioned in my early blog. I hope with this humidifier, I can make my BH temperature and humidifier less fluctuate.

2. 3 more partitions such that the BH is darker and the humidity in the BH is more stable.





The next upgrade in my mind is to install Bullet Tweeter at the 2 side of the partitions. With all the good feedback I received about the tweeter, it should help to increase my nest count to 2 digits every month.

My DIY Ultrasonic Humidifier

Finally my DIY Humidifier is in operation now.

Just to share with you all how I DIY my humidifier. Of course first you need to buy good and reliable mist makers. So, I bought mist makers from my friends after he test run no problem > 8 months for more than 10 units. Well, made in China stuff, you have to do so.

A hole is cut for PC Fan.

4" hole is cut for PVC. Initially I cut the hole at the center of the container which is wrong (picture below is wrong position). You should cut the hole at the opposite end of the PC Fan. The mist will able to flow out smoothly from this opening. Another small hole is cut for water inlet.

I used 2 cable ties to tie the PC Fan instead of 4. By doing so, I can insert my mist maker through this hole. In future, if you want to do maintenance work, you can remove easily. No screw no cutting.

I used filtered water for my mist maker. The mist produces will be clean and less contamination or maintenance require.

The DIY mist makers is ready to run. I used wire mesh to cover the 2 PVC output to prevent birds flying when not in operation.

The mist makers is connected to humidity controller. The immediate result I observed was the BH humidity reach to set point in very short time. The mist is very fine, light and can travel very far as compare to Taiwan humidifier. I only need to use 1 for 20x70 shop lot. The best is........almost NO SOUND :)

Bullet Bazooka Water Proof Idea By User

Hi Victor,

That's how I improve water resistance of the bazooka.

Use a thin saw and saw less than half cm drain at the bottom. 4 layers of wire net use for mosquito netting and clip at the mouth to reduce direct water penetration. When put it at 30% angle, spray with shower most water will drain off at the net, some water still penetrate and drain at bottom. Even a non waterproof cloth is ok as water will drain at bottom of horn before tweeter. When screw in tweeter leave a small gap btw tweeter and horn so water will get stuck and drained off.

I intend to put below a external roof so full resistance is not really a concern.

I have recorded different bird sounds played back using different tweeters. From the sound, you can't hear the different. But the Frequency response graph can tell the different. Below are the test results for Ext1:-

Meet Vietnam Friend

Last week, my Vietnam friend come to Singapore to meet me. We chatted for almost 2 hours and we exchanged information.

He has a small BH in Vietnam on top of his house. Not big but the result is impressive. He DIY himself and after 8 months in operation, the nests counts reach 80 now. He has his own way to attract birds which are very different from what common practice now a day.

- He only use 10 internal tweeters in his BH. But those tweeters are good one. His reason is, he don't want to make the birds confuse
- He play the same internal and external sounds.
- He edit his own sound.
- He has his own way to control the internal temperature. Fyi, the temperature outside his BH can vary from 10degC to 37degC.

How Far Can Sound From Bullet Bazooka Travel?

A lot people claim that the sound from their Bazooka can reach 500m to 1km. But I have not seen any experiment done by them. I always wanted to know how far can the sound from Bullet Bazooka go?

Last Friday after "Bird Talk" with my friends at Mac at around 10.30pm, we went to an industrial area with an open field. See the Google Maps below. Btw, those buildings no longer there. Google Maps a bit slow to update their system. We played the Bullet Bazooka at Point A at the right volume and we walk across the field until we reach Point B. For me at Point B, I cannot hear the sound but my friends still can hear the sound but very soft already. Hmm....this is also good for hearing test. My hearing system is old already :( Maybe swiftlet has better hearing system and still can hear the sound.

Based on the scale at the left hand bottom corner, the distance from Point A to Point B is 300 meters. We also verified the area coverage at Point B (left to right distance from Point B). It is about 200 meters in diameter.

So now I can safely tell people how far the sound from Bullet Bazooka can travel. I am quite sure if you put 2 or more Bullet Bazooka together, the distance can go beyond 300 meters .

DIY Bazooka Using Bullet Tweeter

Security System
